FOSS.IN-BANGALORE
I just wanna share with you about the FOSS.IN event held at Bangalore, December 1 to 5. Foss.in event is new to me as this is the first time i attended a multicultural knowledgeable event regarding FOSS. It was really a heavenly time we had there in Bangalore as well as in the Nimhans Venue Premises at Bangalore.
Nimhans Premises is a part of a famous Hospital there in Bangalore. There were 3 Auditoriums(Audi 1, Audi 2,Audi 3). You can select any talk which you like or which you think it interests you much. It is just like a professional who does the things in the way he wants to be. 5 days Event . . Throughout the 5 days we enjoyed in a/c hall with tea/coffee anytime for free and lunch too :) (we were really lucky there). We paid only 500 rupees for registration and that included 5 days lunch(buffet) with tea/coffee anytime with a complimentary bag and a mug engraved with foss.in picture with some calendars and booklets. It was really a wonderful tour.. educational as well as enjoyable one..
Each day the session starts by 11 and ends at 6 in the evening.. We stayed there in Pranav's new house and came to Majestic to take another bus to reach Nimhans premises. The first session of first day was inaugurating the foss.in event which is absolutely mind boggling. They didnt have any special chief guests to inaugurate. They randomly picked up 5 people from audience who travelled from distant places to attend foss.in. The first day we attended Open Source Cloud Computing and Debian workout.. The workout session was interesting and informative.
The second day i attended Pulse Audio session held by a person from Germany (NOKIA). Three Brand Sponsors were Nokia, Yahoo and Thought Works. Though i literally couldn't understand anything from Pulse Audio i just enjoyed having a small nap in ac hall :). The Afternoon sessions' Project of the Day was Fedora.. It was really really nice. The Fedora guy whose name i dunno was really awesome and mind boggling. He kept on typing codes in less than 10 seconds whose lines were about 3 to 5 in number. The codes were difficult to remember. But that guy was typing in a jiffy with splendid knowledge. He explained how to create a repository from Fedora. It was really awesome guys.
The next days Project was KDE.. KDE gave free t shirts and some stickers to stick on lappy. One of the guys created an application to view the tweet from twitters account on to the desktop.. Creating applets was really awesome!! That guy was studying in 2nd year BE(:)). Another guy from IIT gave a talk on some of the principles of the compilers. It was too advanced for us. We enjoyed a lot there in ac. We entirely forgot our college's seats and hot atmosphere!! lol :)
The debugging session was really superb. What a brain they had. There was a code for about 200 lines for developing a small game with ball jus like pin ball ie. The codes were debugged to show the output that was required. It was really awesome. Their heads were really tough on to say. Imagine how a person can solve and debug a code on the dais with exceptional skills on the fly given program!!
The last day's session was GNOME. They taught something about the MOBLIN OS which would captivate everyone with its stunning appearance. I liked it lot just like an ipod Touch's appearance!! All things synced onto a common tray. Fly off!!
Apart from this, we enjoyed there in M.G. Road, it was a great visiting spot.. Came there for 3 days in our 5 day trip's tour. Outed well in most restaurants that were good in Bangalore. Enjoyed much as what we would say. But we din have enough time to relax ourselves. That was the major disadvantage that i think it sucks. Everything else was okay.
I would say that foss.in event had encouraged us with some amount of spark that would enlighten soon towards the path of FOSS. We learnt how FOSS is necessary for a good career. Foreigners across the world had something to share with others. But we couldn't understand some talks :)) since it was highly advanced!!!
Enjoy as much as you can!
